Creating personas as part of a Design Thinking Workshop

 

In 2012 I designed a series of four “Impact” Grants for IBM’s philanthropic division, Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs (CC&CA). Grants developed include the IBM Digital Marketing Road Map; Social Media Strategy and Planning; Social Media Strategy Accelerator; and Website User Experience Assessment. In addition to creating these offerings, I have facilitated dozens of these engagements for a wide number of nonprofit and educational organizations partnering with IBM.

Digital Marketing Grant

The Digital Marketing Road Map Grant helps organizations understand the components of a marketing plan and formulate a digital marketing strategy. It provides the organization with a solid framework to build and implement a marketing plan. During a collaborative workshop we work through each of 7 components of a marketing plan while focusing on leading practices for audience-centric design, messaging and campaigns.

Clients include:  Durham Public Schools, Oregon Food Bank, Charleston School District, North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, Make a Wish Georgia, Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana

Social Media Strategy and Planning Grant

The Social Media Strategy and Planning Grant is designed to help an organization formulate a strategic plan for effectively managing their social media channels. It includes an expert assessment of the current channels including a review of current site analytics; and measurement of the impact and engagement of those channels. Workshop attendees learn about setting goals, audience identification and empathy, content creation, measurement, listening and an overview of tools used to manage social channels.

Clients include: Bergen County United Way, Vermont Public Libraries, Wolf Trap Performing Arts, National Math Festival, North Carolina Association of Feeding America Food Banks

Social Media Strategy Accelerator Grant

The Social Media Strategy Accelerator Grant is typically awarded to an organization that has demonstrated expertise with their social media channels and is looking for more advanced techniques to further improve their outcomes on social channels. The grant typically focuses on one initiative, event or campaign for a deeper look at how social media can support the marketing of the focus area. Workshop attendees work collaboratively to refine/improve their plans for their event or campaign.  

Clients include: Barbara Bush Houston Literary Foundation, Child Fund International, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, Junior Achievement of Oklahoma

Website User Experience Assessment Grant

The Website User Experience Assessment Grant takes a deep look at an organization’s primary website. Prior to the workshop, the consultants conduct an assessment of the website as well as an analysis of the site’s analytics. They evaluate and write recommendations regarding the brand presence, look and feel, content quality and navigational structure. During the workshop the consultants discuss their findings and recommendations. They develop personas and user journey maps related to the website. Finally the grantee receives a road map document that outlines how to apply this knowledge to their website.

Clients include:  National FFA, Georgia Gives, Lennox School District, United Way of Vermont, World Affairs Council, Better Business Bureau of NY Foundation

Custom Grants

Custom grants provide specialized consulting services to address unique needs typically related to technology, brand and communication.  Each custom grant includes a discovery phase followed by a visioning workshop and final road map report.
